For younger students I feel it is so important to not just track behavior but to help equip them with tools that will help them communicate feelings and respond in appropriate ways. I create a place in my classroom that will allow them to "take a break" to decompress and think about making a different choice. This corner has the sign I included in this packet, along with a basket that contains the calm down cards. Also included in this basket and materials to complete these calm down cards such as stuffed animal, paper & crayons, a mirror, squeeze balls, glitter jar, tissues, etc.
At the beginning of the year each parent completes a separation anxiety handprint which the child can visit in their cubbies if homesick. This hand-out is included in this document.
Also included, is our noise chart , simply cut out squares and laminate warnings/consequences down on cardstock. Velcro the letters that spell out NOISE on top, each is removed and revealed to keep students aware of classroom volume.
