This 2 page document is targeted to parents of kindergarteners. However, will small adjustments it can be a wonderful resource to help your parents feel more comfortable supporting their child's reading at home. This file contains an editable Microsoft Word document making tweaking and adding your name and class easy.
The letter explains to parents the take home book procedures used in my kindergarten special education classroom as well as suggestions to use as home. It answers the question- why should my child read at home everyday and discusses some challenges student's may face when reading.
Page 2 includes the "What do I do if..." chart for parents to reference at home. It explains what to do if you are reading with your child and they struggle with:
- a short decodable word (wet, mom, fix, swim, etc)
- a decodable 2-3 syllable word (muffin, sunset)
- a decodable or non decodable word supported by a picture
- a non-decodable (sight word) or not yet decodable word (the, of, knot)
