These Break Cards are a great classroom management tool for all students, but especially those with anxiety and those who have trouble maintaining self-control. Students can be given a set number of break cards to use during a day/period/time frame. They hand you a card to let you know they need a break to calm down and regain control. The rules for the break are on the front of the card, and their options are on the back. My students who use them keep them in their tool box.
Sometimes students have difficulty recognizing that they need to take a break, so I also keep a stack of break cards, that I hand to students when I feel they need to take a break. Print and copy these back-to-back and laminate to improve durability.
