This three day, mini-unit seeks to answer the essential question “How does society construct valid arguments?”. Over the course of the unit students will recall a time when they had to persuade someone to do something, debate whether school uniforms should be implemented in schools, research controversial topics, make persuasive speech outlines, and eventually debate. During the first lesson students are expected to understand that valid arguments are supported with facts. During the second lesson students are expected to find facts that support their argument and organize their facts and ideas. During the third lesson students are expected to organize their facts and ideas in a logical order and formulate a conclusion to their argument. Over the span of the unit students will understand what comprises a valid argument and how to create a valid argument.
