These passes are a great nonverbal way to implement the responsive classroom behavior strategy of take a break and buddy room. I keep many passes around my room (make sure they are laminated for durability). I hand students the pass and the designated take a break seat has a pass taped to it. At the take a break location put up or have as a card to hold the thinking sign that is included. By using these nonverbal cards students are less resistant to taking a break and it decreases the back and forth.
