THIS MOVIE ROCKS AND BENEFITS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS!
Students are allowed to watch the video “Taken” featuring Liam Neeson as a supplement to Patricia McCormick’s Sold.
At the end of the overall unit, students watch “Taken” and complete a video guide. The video is two pages in length, consists of twenty-three questions, and a Venn diagram.
The first eighteen questions will ensure students comprehend the video as they watch it. Simply pause the video to discuss a question if a student is unsure of an answer or if a question or answer needs to be emphasized.
The Venn diagram will help students to compare and contrast Patricia McCormick’s Sold to “Taken” as students will understand that any individual is susceptible to the human trafficking crime regardless of socio-economic level.
Students will also understand the different ways traffickers manipulate individuals from impoverished countries than they do those from an affluent country such as the United States.
The last five questions will help make the video and book relevant to their lives. Students will understand that any individual can be a potential victim to human trafficking if they are not careful.
An answer key is provided to aid class discussion with students on the video guide and the book. My students really enjoyed the movie!
The movie does have violent content so be sure to ask administration or abide by your school’s rules regarding watching certain videos in class.
