This weekly lesson plan goes along with the common core curriculum map for 2nd grade: Taking Care of Ourselves. It is the SECOND week in my Taking Care of Ourselves Unit.
In this weekly lesson plan, students will be learning about nutrients by reading Good Enough To Eat by Lizzy Rockwell. They will use a graphic organizer to organize the information they read. The students conduct a science investigation to determine if food items contain the fat nutrient. At the end of the week, they will put it all together by reading and evaluating food labels to determine the number of nutrients. Students will write an opinion paper based on the information gained from reading the food labels.
By the end of the week, they are able to:
use text features to understand key details in a text.
use a graphic organizer to organize details in a text.
conduct an experiment to determine if fat is in food.
identify nutrients in food by looking at a food label.
