I was partially sick of getting plagiarized content and partially fondly remembering a middle school assignment of my own when I created this assignment.
While students still could (and will) copy parts of the assignment because they will be writing about long-ago events, the fact is that they will probably learn to paraphrase a bit in order to avoid all the copying. Plus, hand-drawn images add character.
Social studies teachers could adapt this lesson to work with any historical period or location. In fact ,it might be the solution to all the simply terrible social studies copy-and-paste assignments I constantly saw.
Students will complain because they like being lazy.
