Want a terrific way to start off the school year with your new fourth graders? How about reading Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing by Judy Blume! Of course, you will want to help your students build their Tier 2 vocabulary as they read the book, and that’s exactly what this product will do!
Vocabulary is not learned in a single week. Students must interact with words in a variety of ways numerous times throughout the school year. Although most literature study packets contain vocabulary words, the necessary exposure to and practice with the words and their meanings are not usually provided. As a result, I have designed a variety of products to assist teachers with the instruction, practice, review, and assessment of selected Tier 2 vocabulary words from Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing.
This particular product is designed as a source of practice via fun, engaging games. Three games are included. CONCENTRATE is a memory type game in which students turn over cards trying to match a word with its definition. LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! gives students the opportunity to act out the meaning of a vocabulary word for others to identify the word. Finally, when playing NAME THAT WORD, students illustrate the word’s meaning to help others name the word.
Included in this product are:
• Directions for each game
• Word cards for each game
• Student Objectives
• Common Core connections
• Word Lists with definitions
There are two Tier 2 words for each of the ten chapters.
Thank you for considering this product.
If you like this product, you might consider the Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing Interactive PowerPoint which introduces each of the vocabulary words along with definitions and sentence examples.
