If you struggle with teaching your students to take turns during a literature discussion or small guided reading group, this freebie is perfect for you! Instead of one or two students leading the discussion while rest daydream, doodle, or who knows what- get everyone involved!
At the beginning of the group discussion, pass out a few talk turns to each student. The rules? If a student wants to share or contribute, they must put a talk turn in the pile. They have to use all of their talk turns before the discussion is over. If a student runs out of turns, they must wait until everyone else runs out to share. Ta da! Complete group engagement. No arguing. No fighting. No talking over each other. No leaving anyone out. And the best part? It's free! Leave me some feedback love please :)
