Learning how to annotate a text is a skill that ALL students need. Studies show that when students actively engage in writing while reading, their comprehension increases. With this lesson plan, which can be modified into a 3-day unit, students will learn how to talk to a text in order to annotate it. Once learned, this skill can be applied to every text you teach in order to promote active reading skills. In this guide you will receive a detailed lesson plan, class activity, supporting texts, handouts and a rubric to grade student work. Check out my accompanying Powerpoint for additional support.
