The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm is a thought-provoking book written by LeVar Burton and Susan Schaefer Bernardo and illustrated by Courtenay Fletcher. In the story, Rhino has lost his ‘world’ to a violent storm and flash flood. He becomes so angry as he observes the death and destruction around him that he literally swallows the storm. The book ends with a wonderful list of discussion questions that this product is designed to support. PLEASE NOTE: THE BOOK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PRODUCT.
‘Swallowing storms’ is the authors’ way of teaching children about what can happen when you hold in your feelings about the terrible things that might be going on in your life. As Rhino learns from friends how to cope with his fear and anger, children can also learn how to ‘let the storm out.’
Included in this package:
*10 posters that can be used in discussions with children about what ‘storms’ may be happening in their lives.
*5 sentence cards that give the advice of the friends that Rhino meets
*5 printable response pages to be used as needed for students to express themselves through writing
