This product provides basic information about trees, including benefits and uses of trees, in a fun and unique skit format. Children in the audience will learn about trees in an enjoyable manner by watching this skit. If students perform the skit, they will learn about trees by acting out the lines, in addition to gaining confidence by learning lines and speaking in front of a group in a supportive, non-threatening atmosphere. The skit includes basic information about the different parts trees have, how trees are alive, tree fruit and nuts, ways to care for trees, how trees make their food, uses and benefits of trees, animals that live in trees, Arbor Day, and ways for people to help trees. This skit could be used as an introduction to units on trees, forests, ecosystems, etc. It would also be ideal for an Arbor Day or Earth Day program or assembly as well as for any tree-related programs used in youth organizations. In addition to the skit itself, the product includes notes about costumes, actors, appropriate uses of the skit, and suggested variations for the skit. A list of all State Trees and the dates of Arbor Day for every state and the District of Columbia is also included. The skit is about three and one-half pages in length. The skit is designed to be presented to children from pre-school through around 4th grade. The actors in the skit could be students from 5th grade through 12th grade or adults.
