If you’re trying to put your students into a writing mode, this worksheet will help. The worksheet will give your students practice in writing exaggerations, which are a necessary component of tall tales. After a reference to NBA player, LeBron James being short in comparison to Paul Bunyan, students are given ten sentence-starters that deal with various aspects of Paul Bunyan. Students are encouraged to finish the sentences with wildly
far-fetched ideas. A drawing is included, and possible answers are provided on the second page labeled “answer key.” Checking answers together will let students share their own ideas, as well as hear wildly far-fetched ideas that they didn’t think of.
The worksheet can be done individually, but also works well with most cooperative learning groups: think-pair-share, trios, or small groups. You can use the worksheet as a test to evaluate creative writing or for homework. Being a word document, this product is easy to print off and edit if necessary.
