Getting ready for your next writing unit? Want to take that fictional narrative to the next level? Let's write a TALL TALE! My class writes tall tales about each other each year. We are divided into houses (like in Harry Potter), and the kids write tall tales about another member of their house. Then, the tall tales go into our house binders, which are passed down from year to year. This tradition gives the kids an audience for their tall tale, which is always a big motivator!
The trouble is, having 5th graders understand HOW to write a tall tale has proven to be slightly challenging. When I reflected on the last few years, I realized we needed some help. So THIS YEAR, I've created my TALL TALE WRITING unit, complete with a word bank and modified rough draft planner. I know that these research based tools will help even my most emerging-level writers!
