Yippee yay! Take your students on a journey back to the Old West where outrageous storytellin' first originated and Tall Tale heroes emerged. Your students will discover hyperbole was the tool useS by the folks that exaggerated the deeds of these mostly fictitious heroes. This unit supports the Common Core standard that requires students to recount folktales. One of the highlights of this unit is the Close Reading versions of five different Tall Tales. They engage students by using a variety high level critical thinking skills.

Writing Projects - Summarize or recount the details of each Tall

Point of View - Students rewrite a Tall Tale
from a different character's perspective.

Puppet Project - Students use to do an oral retelling of the story.
