Students of all levels struggle with Shakespeare - mostly because they fear their ability to make sense of the language.
My questions help guide understanding because:
* they follow the play in chronological order
* they ask students to refer to specific line numbers and sections
* they require students to devise opinions and validate with textual proof
My questions are different. While they will help the students understand basic elements of plot, they will also encourage deeper analytical thinking about the play.
I've used these documents as classwork, preparation for discussion, and open-book quizzes. You could even modify the assignment and have students use the questions as a brief classroom presentation.
