For years I have had students compare themes between Shakespeare's work and modern adaptations using written essays only, but this year I realized I can get better work if I give the students options.
This summative assessment allows students to pick the topic they would like to compare and contrast between "The Taming of the Shrew" and "10 Things I Hate About You" (currently on netflix!) AND the media they prefer to use to communicate their thoughts. Assessment should be used after reading the play and introduced before viewing the movie
Note: Please view the movie first! There may be scenes you choose to skip for both purpose and content based on the viewers in your classroom
Cover sheet, Direction sheet with checklist (so students can clearly mark their choices), movie viewing notes to record ideas while watching, Rubric aligned to four ccss standards and one section to encourage thoughtful use of media
