This is an activity I use at the end of the year every year. My students love to find all of the polygons they can make with the tangram pieces. The best part..... it’s a self directed, quiet activity that students love and allows me to be able to take care of all the wonderful end of the year housekeeping we teachers need to take care of.
Each student gets a Tangram Polygon Puzzles packet and a set
of four inch plastic tangrams . Put students in groups of two or
three. With their partner, students use their tangram set to
create the polygons. If they are successful, they can show
their partner, and their partner will build the polygon. Students then trace each tangram piece to show the completed polygon on their page. The students will then write yes on the chart on the first page of their polygon packet and move to the next polygon puzzle until they have completed the packet.
If you do not have plastic tangram sets for your students, you can copy the page with the tangram pieces onto cardstock and have students cut them out to use.
I hope you and your students enjoy these tangram activities!
