Tangram craft projects and writing activities for special education, autism, and differentiated instruction. Simple projects with several classroom writing activities. Perfect for ABA, for special education classrooms, for occupational therapy, and even for regular education.

Learn about tangrams with information worksheet. Find the shapes in tangrams. Print tangram patterns on construction paper (cut construction paper 8.5" x 11" before putting in printer). Then cut tangrams to make shapes. Place shapes on one of 5 tangram animals (fish, dog, turtle, fox, horse).

Differentiated writing activities for tangrams is a major part of this activity. Simplest activity - trace outline letters for each word. Simple outline trace and copy sentences included. Practice words in handwriting lines. Picture-word support for low readers. Highest level - use word banks to write about tangrams. Tangram worksheets with word bank support.

I use this file with students with autism and special needs. I set it up at the beginning of the week, and then work with each student throughout the week. Because it is set up, I can differentiate to work with every child I see in therapy. Students with low level skills can make the project and do the outline trace or trace and copy word cards with picture support. Students in K - 1st can do all of the activities and benefit from the picture word support. I have used this with teens with moderate autism - they can do most of the higher level activities with help. My specialty is differentiating curriculum and working on handwriting, fine motor and writing generalization skills. Please see the preview to determine how you would incorporate these activities into your classroom or therapy. I would love to hear feedback for how you use these activities!

The Fine Motor Store has more Cut and Write, Outline Trace and Write and differentiated writing activities for each season and different themes. You can find these differentiated writing activities in The Fine Motor Store and add your own project!

Created by Jan McCleskey, MA, OTR from The Handwriting Clinic/First Strokes Products. This file probably took the longest to write, of all my products - I spent months and months on drawing pictures to support this one . As I completed pictures, I tried this out in centers with students, and the results were very exciting for beginning learners, and especially for students with special needs. Enjoy!
