Targeted Skill Practice and Intervention:
Analyzing in detail how a key individual, idea, or event is introduced, illustrated, and elaborated in a text. (RI5.3, RI6.3, RI7.3)
This is a unit that focuses solely on helping teach students identify key ideas, individuals, or events in a text. Student then must explore how these ideas, individuals, or events change as information is presented in the text and more of the text unfolds. Students will explore Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and Michael Phelps in their reading and identify change throughout these informative and relevant texts. Students will be forced to explore response to change, sequence of events, and story progression as they explore these rigorous texts. This unit consists of a pre and post test (ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED), additional practice, links to online articles and resources that can be accessed free of charge, I CAN statements, content specific vocabulary, and more!
