This grade 5, 6, and 7 ELA unit is designed to assist students in understanding text structure and how/why writers include parts of a text as they attempt to develop ideas and topics. In this unit, students will examine a variety of texts and passages and will analyze the text structure(s), author's purpose for writing a text, the central idea of a text, as well as why author's organize text the way they do.
This unit is wonderful for an additional way to track data on the mastery of a specific standard. The unit, questions, I CAN statements, and activities are based off of research based practices and have been developed by an experienced and practicing ELA teacher who understands what you need. Lessons are intended to reach a wide variety of learners.
This unit could be used to teach an entire class, for Morning Work, intervention purposes, etc. It is very flexible and should fit the needs of your class no matter how you decide to implement the unit. lessons, and resources.
