Target the use of key NAPLAN numeracy vocabulary using this quick and easy to implement word problem activity. This activity is designed for students in Year 7, but is also suitable for students in Years 5 to 9. These questions are ideal for teaching students mathematical terminology and need not be restricted to NAPLAN preparation.
To enhance engagement and individualise student learning, each question is accompanied by a QR code (quick response code) which provides direct access to answers.
Please note, this is not an officially endorsed publication of the NAPLAN program or Australian Governments.
Suggested Use 1:
Print one set of questions per group.
Cut to separate individual questions.
Allow students to attempt questions at their own pace. They can also be responsible for checking answers using the QR Codes.
Suggested Use 2:
Teacher projects questions onto the white board.
Use the ‘Think, Pair, Share’ approach to solve individual questions: student answers question independently on a personal whiteboard or in their workbook; student discusses concept with a neighbour; students share solutions with the class. Students then attempt the next question.
I hope your students find this activity both educational and engaging, and look forward to receiving your feedback.
