Product Description
New and improved! My students always struggle with the Tariff of Abominations - until this year! I finally created a way for students to understand this tariff. This is a 15 minute mini-lesson/simulation/introduction to get students to understand why the South hated this tariff!

In this simulation, students will play the role of a Southern plantation owner, Northern factory owner, English factory owner and a shipper/sailor. Students will deliver cotton to the North and the Northern factory owner will make t-shirts. The shipper will deliver cotton to the English factory owner, who will make English T-shirts. As the ship returns to the South with English T-shirts, the Tariff of Abominations is passed by Congress and students will see why the South is ANGRY over this tariff. This simulation ends with student "chanting" and a recording page where students create (formative assessment) thought bubbles to summarize the Northern and Southern reaction to the tariff.

I've left this in powerpoint so you can adjust as needed.

Included in purchase:
-26 page PDF (includes all images to print)
-detailed instructions for the teacher
-pictures of my actual classroom so you can see how I set this up personally
-2 examples of the "formative assessment" where students create thought bubbles.

PLEASE NOTE: If you downloaded an earlier version of this simulation, please download again.
