This task-based Activity accomplishes two goals. It:
1.Teaches students the responsible behavior of how to pay their bills and balance a checkbook,
2.Allows students to acquire Spanish vocabulary related to:
-practical day-to-day living activities
-numbers in Spanish numbering in the hundreds and thousands
-dialogues that allow students to argue their point of view, and agreeing and disagreeing, as well as giving reasons for their choices.
Ever wished students knew what "adulting" is like? Here's your chance:
This extensive packet includes 9 pages of 17 different areas or opportunities to pay bills, such as: La vivienda, la comida, el seguro médico, la electricidad, el cable, el celular, la tarjeta de crédito, las deudas de la universidad, el seguro del carro, los pagos mensuales del carro, la gasolina, los aparatos eléctricos/domesticos, la ropa, la tintorería, ahorras de emergencia, y gastando el resto (si hay) de dinero en tu tiempo libre.
The students have to pair up with their "esposo/a" or significant other and plan out a budget.
The last page includes a spreadsheet whereby students can keep tab of their monthly expenses.
Have students pay their bills for 3 sections in one 20 minute period, and stretch this activity over one to two weeks.
