My students love to discuss their favorite Starbucks drinks. So let them discuss them in Spanish! This task-based activity packet is a « delicious » way to keep student interest in Spanish.
In total there are 5 activities that follow a fun and logical sequence:
-The first page is an introduction to the « anatomia » of a Starbucks drink, and the ingredients that go into the makeup of their favorite treat.
-This introductory activity familiarizes them with some of the vocabulary involved in coffee drinks, which allows them to transition much easier into the next activity: a questionnaire about your favorite drinks.
- First you choose the favorite ingredients that make up your drink.
- Next you guess the favorite ingredients of your partner’s drink, and finally you verify or negate your guesses by actually asking what the favorite ingredients of your
partner´s favorite drink are.
-The whole point of this activity is to comunicate by using Spanish only. Now that information has been exchanged in Spanish, you can answer questions about who guessed the most ingredients correctly of their partner, and therefore who the winner would be.
-The final two steps involve a picture of a « to go » coffee cup. The students must: 1) create a CRAZY drink by drawing the levels and describing the ingredients based on the previous questionnaire activity (Activity B), or 2) redraw their favorite drink identified with the appropriate Spanish ingredients. Based on their description of this drink, they must write a 5 sentence paragraph of their drink, using transtional phrases, such as: Primero, agrega/añade (add), Segundo/Después, agrega/añade, Tercero/Luego, agrega/añade, Cuarto/Entonces, agrega/añade, y Por fin, agrega/añade.
