These 24 colorful activity cards are designed to help your students review area and perimeter and the academic language associated with the concepts.
The first twelve cards are designed to help strengthen academic language. Students are first required to define area and perimeter, explain how to calculate them, compare them, and consider how they could use area and perimeter in real life. Students will apply their knowledge by locating and measuring several classroom objects, then calculating the area and perimeter of each object. Finally, students will solve three, real life examples of area and perimeter problems.
Another 12 cards are designed to help students practice determining which formula to use and calculating area and perimeter in real-life situations. These final 12 cards have Augmented Reality embedded in them so that students can self-check their work. Also included is a recording sheet and an "I'm Confused" graphic that brings up a video showing students how to complete similar problems. For a quick tutorial on getting started with Augmented Reality, check out my video on How to Use My Augmented Reality Items
For those who don't wish to break out the technology, I've also included answer cards so that students can self-check the old-fashioned way, without the need for a device. If you do feel like integrating technology, students can self-check using the Aurasma app.
This can be used in a variety of ways from center work, to partner work to individual early-finisher work. Suggestions for use are included within.
Set this up as a tech center for iPads, iPhones, or Android devices. Each device only needs the FREE Aurasma app.
*Please note that laminating the cards often causes glare and the app will have trouble accessing the auras.
