Task Cards (Atom Identity, Group & Period #, Reactivity and Lewis Dot Diagrams
These Task Cards are meant to help students understand how to identify an atom, how the periodic table is organized and also understand how the Lewis Dot Diagram groups elements through visuals.
When looking at a task card, the student needs to be able to identify the element based on the image provided. Using the clues, they will then write in the elements name, what group and period it can be found in and also its chemical reactivity. Chemical reactivity is the elements tendencies to lose or gain 1, 2 or 3 electrons. Whether it tends to share its electrons or if it has the ability to do all 3! Finally they must draw a Lewis Dot Diagram of the element. These task cards can be used in a variety of ways. You can hang them up in your classroom as is or in hallways for kids to work on answering the different portions of each card. They can be printed multiple to a page, to be handed out as a warmup as well. Each Card has a QR code so that students can check their answers with their devices or you can use the attached answer key. On the answer key the number associated with each box corresponds to the atomic number of each element. So if a student starts off with Oxygen, they must find number 8 on their answer key and fill in that box.
