These task cards are designed to address student understanding of the formation of the universe according to the big bang theory. The activity is aligned to NGSS HS-ESS1-2: “Construct an explanation of the Big Bang theory based on astronomical evidence of light spectra, motion of distant galaxies, and composition of matter in the universe.”

While they do not actually carry out the standard in this activity, you can purchase an organizer and rubric for the essay in my store. This activity pack assists students in developing and cementing the understandings necessary to meet the standard. While implementation of the included activities is entirely at your discretion, I would recommend first introducing the big bang theory and then leading students through several lessons that discuss the evidence that supports the theory. These task cards are a great way to ELABORATE on concepts already introduced. However, if you are using the 5E Model, these task cards could also be used to EXPLORE or for some stations, EXPLAIN the content in the standard.
PRINTING: The task cards are designed to be printed normally on 8.5x11 inch paper. The worksheets are designed to be printed two-to-a-page using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Simply choose the “multiple pages” setting and select 2 pages/paper. I then copied them front/back so that students had one half-sheet for each of the stations they completed.
