Do your students need practice combining sentences? These task cards can help! This set of 24 task cards focuses on combining simple subjects into compound subjects, and combining simple predicates into compound predicates.
There are 24 cards with sentences that need to be changed from two sentences into one sentence. The sentences either have like subjects or predicates. The students will combine either the subjects or predicates using “and” to make one sentence. There is a recording sheet for the student to record their combined sentence.
Task cards are a flexible instructional tool that can be used many ways in your classroom. They can be used in a small group setting, as partner work, literacy workstations or centers, scoot activities, or for early finishers. There are 24 cards, so you might break these up in to 2 or more sessions.
Early writers usually write simple sentences. Teaching students to combine simple sentences can help them develop as writers and help them understand how language works.
There are two versions of this activity. The sentences are the same on both versions. The first version simply presents the sentences. The second (more supportive) version underlines the part of the sentence that needs to be included with the first sentence.
