Do your students need practice combining simple sentences? These 24 task cards can help. They were designed to practice combining two simple sentences into one sentence. These task cards focus on including adjectives and adverbs in a sentence instead of having a separate sentence for it.
Task cards are a flexible instructional tool that can be used many ways in your classroom. They can be used in a small group setting, as partner work, literacy workstations or centers, scoot activities, or for early finishers. There are 24 cards, so you might break these up in to 2 or more sessions.
Early writers usually write simple sentences. Teaching students to combine simple sentences can help them develop as writers and help them understand how language works.
There are 24 cards with sentences that need to be changed from two sentences into one sentence. The second sentence contains either an adjective or adverb that can be included in the first sentence. There is a recording sheet for the student to record their combined sentence.
There are two versions of this activity. The sentences are the same on both versions. The first version simply presents the sentences. The second (more supportive) version underlines the part of the sentence that needs to be included with the first sentence.
