TASK CARDS FOR WRITING:
This product is designed to be used for learning stations but can be adapted for many different purposes. You may choose to use this while introducing writing skills, or as a review or reinforcement of the them. They can also be used to guide revision of a writing assignment. The learning stations focus on: writing introductions, topic sentences, concluding sentences, focus, idea development, transitions, word choice, variety and conclusions.
Procedure for Learning Stations:
1. Fold the place cards in half and place one at each of your stations.
2. The task cards for each station are labeled with a number from one-three. Task cards with a two are meant to be more difficult than the ones. Task cards with a three can be used to guide students through the revision of a writing assignment. Depending on the needs of your class, you can ask students to complete each card, or use them to differentiate. I have included a blank card for each topic, so you can add more instruction if you’d like.
3. Student will record their answers on the answer sheet designated for each station. You can collect these, or provide students with the answer key so they can correct their own.
4. There are several ways to organize these stations. Students can be grouped and each group sent to a different station. After an appropriate time period, each group will move to the next station. You could also group students according to the skills they need to work on. If several students are struggling with transitions, for example, put them in the same group and send them to that station. You could also have a student who has mastered that skill assigned to be a helper at the station.
Other uses for the cards:
Give cards to individual students, either in class or as homework, so they can work on the particular skills they need to improve.
Use them as bell ringers at the beginning of class to review skills.
