Students will have a great time exploring their taste and scent senses with this lab! Teachers, you will need: jelly beans, skittles, goldfish and dark chocolate in order to have students complete the lab per these procedures.
Students will have the opportunity to work in groups and determine what flavors they are tasting while blindfolded. Then, they will taste test as they close their nose, essentially blocking out their ability to smell. This will show them how scent is needed for tasting food! Students will then experiment with where the locations of taste are located on their tongues. Students will/should notice that each person has different taste buds and that there are many factors that contribute to their sense of taste! Additional questions are included within this lab experiment!
