Directions: Students are going to sample five different foods. Each food has two samples. One sample is a generic food and the other is a name brand food. Students are going to compare the price, as well as the appearance, taste and texture of each food.
The food that you can use may consist of the following:
Milk Peanut Butter Chips
Apple Juice Crackers Cookies
Cheese Cereal Fruit Cocktail
Pop Tarts Cheese
This activity can be done in groups of three to four. Once they start the activity give student between five and ten minutes at each station. They will sample the food and then fill out the chart and the questions. After the time is up they will rotate to the next station to sample the food until they have been at all five stations.
I have included a paper you can pass out to student that will help them describe words for the texture, taste and appearance of food.
When all students are finished, you can go over which product is the name brand and which is the generic.
