I teach second grade and far too often is class time taken up with students tattling about silly things. The Tattling Turtle Binder is meant to help cut down on class time taken up dealing with issues like "He cut me!!!" or, "She was looking at me weird!." Instead of students running up to you after recess with all of their complaints, they tell it to the tattling turtle. Students fill out a form detailing what happened, who it involved, and where the incident took place. (Students should be taught before hand which things are important to share with their teacher right away, and which things can be told to the tattling turtle.) When students are done filling out their forms, they hand them to their teacher who can read it and deal with it accordingly.
Not only does this cut down on your time spent dealing with silly tattles allowing you to deal with real issues promptly, but it also helps students to realize what they need to tell their teacher and what they need to start letting go. Students also get to practice their writing skills!
Tattling Turtle Cover Page (for front of binder)
Tattling Turtle directions (I keep this in a clear pocket inside binder)
Tattle Sheet- This is where students can describe what their issue is (I keep these behind the directions page)
Tip: I also keep a stuffed animal of a turtle next to my tattling turtle binder
