This lesson was designed for one of my classes that I call “Life Design”. I wanted to make a class that was built entirely around the concept that art is everywhere. This class not only promotes the relevancy of art and design in every part of our everyday world but it also promotes how important it is to learn the basics and build upon them to improve your artistic skills. Every lesson that I teach within this particular class is a vocation that students could use their artistic skills for a living. (Movie makeup, car design, illustration, fashion, tattoos, toys, video games, magazines, graphic design, theatre design, jewelry, comics/graphic novels, culinary arts, fantasy weapons, and murals)
This powerpoint presentation starts off by looking at some very funny bad choices that others made by getting some very stupid tattoos. This leads into talking about tattoo coverups and all the tv shows there are that focus on tattoos in general. It gives a "history of tattoos" and historical reasons for getting a tattoo from culture to culture. (decoration, status, maturity, magic) It describes and shows how tattoos work inside the skin and then shows a handful of examples of all the different types of tattoos (traumatic, medical, cosmetic, temporary, amateur, and professional). It goes into types of tattoo removal and ends will three very simple rules to consider when thinking of getting a tattoo (be smart, be picky, be patient) with explanation. It also gives the list of requirements for their assignment and shows lots of examples of cool tattoo designs (some real some sharpie)
There are matching reading materials, a lesson plan, an assessment worksheet, and a grading rubric for a project sold in another file in my store.
