This test is a thorough overview of the topic of taxonomy. Topics covered include: Aristotle, Linnaeus, the seven levels of classification, scientific names, analyzing charts, and comparing organisms by scientific name.
This three page test begins by having students fill in a chart to identify examples of the five kingdoms of life (Animal, Plant, Fungi, Protist, and Monera) and to identify whether the kingdom is unicellular or multicellular. Then, the questions ask students to apply their knowledge of Aristotle's old classification system.
On the second page, students are given a visual chart of animals with their scientific classification. Students have to interpret the chart to thoroughly understand how and why certain organisms are grouped together. There is also a matching section on the second page that focuses on taxonomy terms such as the various levels of classification.
The third page of the test is a chart that gives the scientific classification of five different organisms, and students have to answer analysis questions based on the information from the chart.
An answer key is included, the chart includes a color copy of animals, and everything is in Word to make editing possible. Thanks!!
