Product Description
“Teach Kids About Africa – Get Married in Morocco” is an engaging, participatory world cultures lesson about Morocco for kids that introduces them to the Imilchil Marriage Festival, a Berber community celebration in the Atlas Mountains at which traditional Berber families meet to find marriage matches for their sons and daughters. Kids will meet Morocco and the Berber culture, explore the concepts of marriage in Morocco and in their own communities (in age-appropriate ways), then get up and experience a classroom/living room version of the festival itself.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a step-by-step "How to celebrate the Imilchil Marriage Festival" lesson. The goal of this lesson is to provide the tools for you to treat your students to their very first introduction to the concept of the festival and to inspire you and even your youngest students to get up and enjoy our version of the celebration together. Ideally the lesson will be the first step on your and your students' road to further Moroccan exploration.

All Around This World is a global music and world cultures program that introduces kids and their grown-ups to the world using enlivening international rhythms and movement.

No materials, foreknowledge of Africa or dance ability necessary. Imagination and an open mind required.

Lesson includes:
-- Interactive PDF with background information introducing Morocco and links to teacher training video and All Around This World's “Teach Kids About the Imilchil Marriage Festival” YouTube video.

-- Access to password-protected “How to Teach Kids About the Imilchil Marriage Festival” video. All Around This World founder and lead teacher Jay Sand introduces you to Morocco and suggests ways to share the lesson with kids, from infants-in-arms to 9 year-olds. In case you feel less than confident about singing and dancing with your students, the video includes a section with Jay teaching the lesson directly to kids. ** Teacher training video is on Vimeo.com. Please make sure you can access Vimeo videos before you buy the lesson.

-- Sections include: Vocabulary/Terms, Discussion/Projects, Learning Outcome/Goal, Materials, Assessment

-- Printable summary of lesson for kids to take home (both color and back and white)

-- Common core and standards information (“National Council for Social Studies” “National Standards for Music Education”)

All Around This World lessons are a small part of Jay Sand's independently crafted, mission-driven educational project that includes:
-- weekly online classes (Jay makes a new class available each week for families and schools to share with their students)
-- Award-winning multilingual CDs such as All Around This World: Latin America and All Around This World: Africa
-- the All Around This World website, with over 1,000 pages that introduce kids and their families to music and culture from every inhabited continent

and always much more...
