“Teach Kids About Africa – 'Uganda's Royal Dance'” is an engaging, participatory world cultures lesson about Africa for kids that introduces them to Uganda, a small East African country with a checkered past, and a jubilant Ugandan royal dance known as the Amagunjju. Kids will meet Uganda and learn how the Amagunjju came to be, then get up, along with their teachers, and DANCE DANCE DANCE!
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a step-by-step "How to dance the Amagunjju" lesson. The goal of this lesson is to provide the tools for you to treat your students to their very first introduction to the basic idea of the Amagunjju and to inspire you and even your youngest students to get up and try the dance together. (Your Amagunjju moves can't be any worse than mine!) Ideally the lesson will be the first step on your and your students' road to further Amagunjju exploration.
All Around This World is a global music and world cultures program that introduces kids and their grown-ups to the world using enlivening international rhythms and movement.
No materials, foreknowledge of Uganda or dance ability necessary. Imagination and an open mind required.
