“Teach Kids About Hong Kong – Let's Become Hong Kong Action Cinema Heroes!" is an engaging, participatory world cultureslesson about Hong Kong for kids that invites them to experience an enjoyable element of Hong Kong's culture. Kids will learn about the history of Hong Kong and meet the awesome art of cinematic kung fu -- a serious martial art that became somewhat silly in the movies. En route to acting out a climatic heroic scene we'll learn about the important role action movies played in the internationalization of Hong Kong.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a "How to do Kung Fu like an action movie star" lesson. The goal of this lesson is to provide the tools for you to treat your students to their very first introduction to Hong Kong's exciting action cinema and to inspire you and even your youngest students to leap into the experience together. You're not going to learn complex martial arts move; the mission is to enjoy the adventure together. Ideally the lesson will be the first step on your and your students' road to further East Asian cultural exploration.
Also, OF COURSE we know that there is much more to the culture of Hong kong than action cinema. All Around This World offers many types of musical experiences and cultural celebrations. This lesson is a touch more frivolous than an ancient cultural dance, but it does give us a chance to, literally, leap into learning about Hong Kong.
