Product Description

"Teach Kids About Japan – Let's Sing Karaoke” is an engaging, participatory world cultures lesson about Japan for kids that invites them to experience a key -- and really fun! -- element of Japanese culture. Kids will learn a little about Japan, meet Karaoke, the Japanese art of "empty orchestra," and join their grown-ups in pretending to sing.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a deep karaoke tutorial. This light lesson gives us a chance to start a karaoke party with our kids, encouraging us to dip our toes in Japanese culture while we sing together. You can, and should, use the lesson as the inspiration for a sprawling sing-along party with your kids. Ideally the lesson will be the first step on your and your students' road to further karaoke exploration.

All Around This World is a global music and world cultures program that introduces kids and their grown-ups to the world using enlivening international rhythms and movement. Subscribe to "All Around This World" through http://www.Patreon.com/AllAroundThisWorld and receive weekly full online classes and interactive pdf lessons for your family or classroom.

No materials or foreknowledge of Japan. Imagination and an open mind required.

Lesson includes:
-- Interactive PDF with background information introducing Japan and links to teacher training video and All Around This World's “Teach Kids About Karaoke” YouTube video.

-- In the “How to Teach Kids About Karaoke” video, All Around This World founder and lead teacher Jay Sand introduces you to Karaoke and suggests ways to share the lesson with kids, from infants-in-arms to 9 year-olds. In case you feel less than confident about singing with your students, the video includes a section with Jay teaching the lesson directly to kids. ** Teacher training video is on Vimeo.com. Please make sure you can access Vimeo videos before you buy the lesson.

-- Sections include: Vocabulary/Terms, Discussion/Projects, Learning Outcome/Goal, Materials, Assessment

-- Printable summary of lesson for kids to take home (both color and back and white)

-- Common core and standards information (“National Council for Social Studies” “National Standards for Music Education”)

All Around This World lessons are a small part of Jay Sand's independently crafted, mission-driven educational project that includes:
-- weekly online classes (Jay makes a new class available each week for families and schools to share with their students)
-- Award-winning multilingual CDs such as All Around This World: Latin America and All Around This World: Africa
-- the All Around This World website, with over 1,000 pages that introduce kids and their families to music and culture from every inhabited continent
-- parent-child classes, family-friendly concerts and school workshops and always much more...

This lesson is licensed for use in one classroom or for one family, or for use by a "traveling" teacher (such as a music teacher who visits several classrooms in a school). Multiple licenses are available at a 50% discount.
