All Around This World

“Teach Kids About the Garifuna – Let's Sing 'Our Story May Be Sad'” is a world music lesson about the Central American Garifuna for kids that uses a simple sing-along to introduce them to the Garifuna community's unique Afro-Caribbean rhythms and culture. “Our Story May Be Sad” touches upon the struggles of the Garifuna people and celebrates their resilience – “our story may be sad but we laugh anyway.” The original song is in Garifuna, though we also sing in English.

All Around This World is a global music and world cultures program that introduces kids and their grown-ups to the world using enlivening international rhythms and movement.

No materials or musical knowledge necessary. Imagination and an open mind required.

Lesson includes:
-- Interactive PDF with background information introducing the Garifuna and links to teacher training video and All Around This World's “Teach Kids Our Story May Be Sad” YouTube video

-- An mp3 of All Around This World's recording of the song embedded in the PDF

-- Lyrics and sheet music (with guitar chords)
