OBJECTIVE: To understand that the observed phase of the Moon is determined by the Moon's position relative to the Earth and Sun
Students use styrofoam balls and a light to simulate the phases of the moon in this activity I have adapted from others found in various sources. Students observe, draw and then match the moon phases as they can be seen in the correct placement of their styrofoam ball to the light. A great visual to understand this concept.
