Help students learn to write analytical paragraphs about the texts they read. This how-to illustrates the gradual release of responsibility model, where the teacher models the skill, and then allows students to work collaboratively before asking them to do the assignment on their own. The lesson I provide is designed around three short stories, (not provided) in order to show you how to do this process. It is one that can easily be applied to any short works of literature that you want to use in your class.
Students are invited to use critical thinking and collaboration skills while they work toward completing a writing assignment. Included are graphic organizers, exit slips and anchor charts.
