This free TpT PDF file assists you with the processes of installing and using ChemSketch 2016 freeware. My objective is to stimulate the use of molecular-modeling software for the creation of 3-dimensional models of molecules of biological importance.
What about chemistry for elementary and middle school students? I consider the cheap, Chinese chemistry sets to be a menace to STEM education; visit Amazon.com and search for chemistry kits, or physics kits, or other types of kits. All junk.
Given that kids are so adept and such quick learners of computer applications, an opportunity exists for them to learn how to use sophisticated, professional, application programs and not just often-tedious, line-by-line computer programming.
ChemSketch is one such professional program. It is a tool that allows users to create and display models of molecules. In its expensive, commercial version, it is an important tool that is widely used in industry and academia.
A well-kept secret is that a freeware version of ChemSketch is available. It can be downloaded, and used for a period of 30 days, which is a far-too-limited trial period.
In my opinion, ChemSketch software is a novel way whereby computer-literate kids can be introduced to chemistry. Also, parents can recover some of their long-forgotten chemistry knowledge. I encourage both parents and their kids – whatever their ages – to learn how to use ChemSketch freeware.
“THE BASIC UNIT OF CHEMISTRY IS THE MOLECULE, AND IF ATOMS ARE LETTERS, THEN MOLECULES ARE WORDS.”
Molecules are fascinating, and are the key to understanding biology, biochemistry, human nutrition, chemical engineering, environmental pollution, as well as clever invented molecules such as molecular 2-dimensional arrays, molecular channels, molecular cages, molecular sieves, and molecular sensors.
About the 30-day limit for the freeware, ask your kids to explore creative workarounds.
