As teachers, we know that every day has countless moments to remember and brings countless more moments for reflection, inspiration, and, of course, concern. This daily log will help you keep organized and document thoughts as they come so that 1. you can focus on the task at hand 2. remember that "thing you thought of during 2nd period and know it was important" 3. maximize planning time by having a record of student achievements, concerns, and your own personal wins.
The free version consists of an open area for logging behavior or student thoughts on the right hand side and the left hand side has the following areas:
- Note section: write those thoughts that pop up during the class day
- Highlights/concerns: take moments to appreciate what has gone well for students and what could have gone better. One idea: this is a great place for accountability when assessing class culture!
-Glows/grows: this is where I reflect on my own performance during class. Take ownership for grow areas and take joy in the wins.
-Affirmation: Did a student say something that made you smile? Did your admin give you props? Did you especially feel fulfilled at some point during the day? Write it down!
-Student shout outs: Which of your students impressed you with their skills, collaboration, efforts, attitude, etc? Record it so you can praise them publicly at the end of class or send them a little note later.
Note: I typically print one for each class period in a day. I keep my daily logs for the week, review them and make sure I didn't miss anything, and then throwing away knowing it served its purpose.
