The beginning of the school year can be extremely tough for some kids. Many student are going to bring baggage and bad memories from other classes. Unfortunately, many student feel like they are going to be set up to fail.
I have found that the way to combat this issue is to be upfront with your students. Too often we tell the student what they need to do for US, rather than letting them know they should have expectations as well. This agreement outlines what your students can expect from you as a dedicated educator. It also lets the students know the qualities that a student needs to show to succeed in your classroom.
Success is born out of mutual respect! This worksheet outline how mutual respect will function in your classroom!
I always include this with by syllabus for the beginning of the school year.
