Do you have a chatty class or students constantly interrupting your instruction?
If so, use the Teacher vs. Student Time posters to help define the difference between teacher and student time! Print and laminate these posters (back to back) and hang in a highly visible place in your classroom.
You can determine your own definitions for each poster:
**Some years my class is not as chatty and therefore we define TEACHER TIME as the time for students to focus (listen) on the teacher during instruction and STUDENT time as the time when they can talk with their peers, i.e recess, free choice centers, etc.
**When I have a class that is VERY CHATTY and has a very difficult time working quietly or staying on task, I change the definition of student time. For instance, STUDENT TIME can be defined as the time when students work quietly (possibly whisper voices) at their tables and focus on completing their task. I play quiet music during their time to help them stay focused and on task.
