Having student TAs in your classroom can be the biggest blessing... and they can also become a nagging pain if the proper expectations and guidelines aren't set in place from the beginning. At the start of each new term, I like to provide my TAs with a guidelines and expectations document for them to read over and sign. This moment allows me to do two things as a teacher 1) communicate how much they are valued 2) communicate my expectations and lay out the ground rules for my classroom as a TA.
This free document provides you with a framework for building your own working agreements for your TAs this year. The document is broken down into sections such as:
-Where to sit
-How to help
-Cell Phone Use
-Taking Care of the classroom
Consider your own expectations for your students and what they might need to know in order to be as efficient and enjoyable for you as possible and edit the attached document to suit your needs.
