The film Refuge -- Pocosin Lakes is a nature documentary shot entirely on the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in coastal North Carolina. The main purpose of the film is to educate viewers about nature's flora and fauna and their ecosystems. Hence all of the footage is shot without baiting or blinds, giving you authentic scenes in nature. A secondary purpose of the film is to educate viewers about our nation's refuges, of which Pocosin Lakes is only one of over 500.
This study guide is intended to accompany the documentary, which can be purchased online at https://squareup.com/market/strs-productions. It focuses on life science but crosses over to other subjects. It is designed to be flexible – you can choose topics and activities that fit your needs.
The lesson plan covers adaptation and natural selection, classification and diversity, biomes, ecosystems, and other realms, relationships within ecosystems, and changing ecosystems. It also includes some reproducible graphic organizers, for students, to compliment these topics.
